Privacy policy

This explains what I do with your personal information when you contact me, book a cremation with me or visit this website. I’ve kept it as plain as I can. If anything isn’t clear, just ask.
Who I am
I’m Alan Currie, a sole trader. I trade as Warrington Pet Farewells, and also as Southport Pet Farewells and Wigan Pet Farewells. I decide how your information is used, so under data protection law I’m the “controller”.
- Address: 67 Bewsey Street, Warrington, WA2 7JQ
- Email: support@warringtonpetfarewells.co.uk
- Phone: 01925 911850 or 07746 883124
What I collect and why
When you call, text or email me. I keep your name, phone number, email address if you use one, and whatever you tell me about your pet and what you need. I use it to answer you and to arrange the cremation if you decide to go ahead. My legal basis is taking steps you’ve asked for before we agree a service, and my legitimate interest in replying to people who get in touch.
When you use the contact form. The form asks for your name and phone number, and optionally your email address, the kind of pet you have and a message. I use these only to get back to you, on the same legal basis as above. The website doesn’t keep a copy of your message. It’s passed straight on to my email inbox. The server only notes your name in its technical log to show the message went through, and that log is cleared regularly.
When you book a cremation. I’ll need your name, address, phone number, email if you have one, where I’m collecting your pet from (your home or your vet’s practice), and your pet’s name, species, breed, approximate weight and date of passing. I also note any memorial or casket you choose. I use this to collect your pet, carry out the cremation, return their ashes to you and send you an invoice. My legal basis is that this is needed to provide the service you’ve asked for.
Keeping records the law requires. As an animal by-products business I have to keep records of each pet that comes into my care for the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). I also keep invoices and payment records for HMRC. My legal basis is that the law requires it.
Paying me. You pay by bank transfer (BACS) after the service. I never ask for, see or store your card details. When you pay, I’ll see your name and payment reference on my bank statement, the same as any transfer.
Reviews. If you send me a review and tell me I can share it, I may quote it on this website with your first name and your pet’s name. My legal basis is your consent, and you can ask me to take it down at any time.
When you visit this website. Like any website, the server needs your device’s IP address and some basic browser details to send you the pages. This is kept for security and to keep the site running, which is my legitimate interest. The details of who handles this are below.
I don’t send marketing emails or texts, I don’t sell your information and I don’t use it to make any automated decisions about you.
Who else handles your information
I only use companies I need to run the business, and each one only gets what it needs to do its job.
- sowd.dev (Alfie Higgins, sole trader) builds and looks after this website and its server for me.
- Hetzner Online hosts the website and the contact form on a server in Helsinki, Finland.
- Cloudflare sits in front of the website to deliver it quickly and protect it from attacks. Every visit to the site passes through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address and browser details.
- Resend sends contact form messages on to my inbox. Its email servers are in Ireland.
- Google Workspace runs my email, so anything you email me, or send through the contact form, is held in my Google mailbox.
- Google Fonts. The website loads its two typefaces from Google’s servers, so your browser sends your IP address and browser details to Google when a page loads. Google Fonts doesn’t set cookies.
- Your vet’s practice, if I’m collecting your pet from them, so we can arrange the collection.
- APHA and HMRC, only where the law requires me to share records.
The blog runs on Ghost, which I host on the same server. Only I log in to it. Visitors never connect to it, so it doesn’t collect anything about you.
If you came to this site by clicking a Google ad, Google knows about that click under its own privacy policy. Nothing on this website reports your visit back to Google Ads.
Information that leaves the UK
Hetzner’s server is in Finland, inside the EU. UK law recognises the EU as giving your data the same level of protection as the UK.
Cloudflare, Resend and Google are US companies, so your information may be handled in the United States. Each of them protects it with the safeguards UK law requires for these transfers: the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the standard contractual clauses, in their data processing terms, and, where the company is certified, the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t lead to a booking: 12 months, then deleted.
- Booking records, invoices and payment records: 6 years from the end of the tax year they relate to, because HMRC requires it.
- APHA records of the pets in my care: at least 2 years, as the animal by-products rules require. In practice they’re kept with the booking record, so for 6 years.
Cookies
This website doesn’t set any cookies of its own and doesn’t use analytics, advertising tags or tracking pixels of any kind. That’s why there’s no cookie banner to click through.
The only exception is Cloudflare. If it needs to check that a visitor isn’t a bot, it can set a short-lived security cookie (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance). These are strictly necessary to protect the site, don’t track you across other websites, and don’t need your consent.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
- ask me to correct anything that’s wrong
- ask me to delete your information, unless the law requires me to keep it
- ask me to limit how I use it, or object to me using it
- ask for information you gave me in a format you can take elsewhere
To do any of these, email me at support@warringtonpetfarewells.co.uk or call me. It’s free, and I’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first and I’ll do my best to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at any time, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If I change how I handle your information, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
